The RulesPhoto competition for beginner thru advanced

Eligibility:  An entrant in the competition must have attended at least ONE of the regular meetings or events within the previous 3, OR must be a "member" or "regular attender" of Hope Church.  Qualification as a "regular attender" will be determined by the fearless leader.   Also, in time, more skill level categories will be available.

Submissions Image content and subject matter must be appropriate - "family-friendly".  The final word on this is the fearless leader.   If a person has any question about subject matter, he should email or discuss prior to the competition.  A maximum of 6 entries TOTAL will be allowed, with the following limitations also being followed:

The images need not be recent; there is no time rule, however, it may not have PLACED in a previous contest by this club.  Prints can be from negative, transparency, or digital originals.   The prints themselves may be digital or chemical, however, they must have originated as an image produced by the entrant with a camera - they may not be digital art.  Digital images may be computer-manipulated or not.  A monochrome image which has been tinted in more than one color will be categorized as COLOR.  A toned print in one color (such as sepia) will be classified as MONOCHROME.
Entries must be presented by 7:25pm on the evening of the competition.

Presentation:
Each photo entered may be of any proportion, but will have dimensions as follows:

Prints may be un-mounted or mounted; however, mounting is strongly recommended. You need only ask other club members who have presented their work un-mounted even one time...they will firmly agree that mounting is better.  If mounted, use either mat board or foam core, i.e.Gatorfoam.  The foam thickness does not matter (3/8" or 1/2").  If so desired, entries can be matted, as long as the finished size does not exceed 20" on the long side.  They may not be framed.  The surface finish may be as the entrant desires.  Afterwards, some of the competition prints will be displayed on Hope's Main Street at which time any un-mounted prints will be mounted as mentioned above, and then returned to the photographer after a few weeks.  The decision as to which prints are shown will belong to appropriate Hope staff member.

Adjudication:  An outside judge (TBA) will verbally evaluate (politely I'm sure) each entry.  The elements factored are originality, aesthetics, and technicality.  When a theme is specified, the theme appropriateness of a print will also be considered, albeit loosely :-)  The purpose of the competition is to allow higher learning on the part of the entrant, and for that matter, all who are in attendance.  The verbal critique is meant only to further this objective, AND... it's a friendly crowd so relax!  :-)  :-)
Also, one can imagine that rushing a judge would not be good, so the meetings on these competition nights will last longer.  That's just the way it is.

Still thinking about it? Then here's a few thoughts for ya...

Awards:  Yes.  Blue, red, and white ribbons.  Collect 'em all!
